Pet Travel

We currently have two veterinary surgeons who are Official Veterinarians or OV's, which allow them to complete Animal Health Certificates or AHC's. Each pet must fulfil the requirements of the scheme which has been in place since January 2021. AHC's can only be issued for non commercial pet movement with up to five animals allowed on each certificate. AHC's are only available for cats, dogs and ferrets.

In order to qualify for the AHC, your pet must follow the steps listed:

1)  MICROCHIPPED

A permanently identified to allow all the necessary information to link with your pet.

2) RABIES VACCINATION

This can be carried given on the same day as the microchipping and will provide the correct immunity to rabies whilst travelling abroad. There is a waiting period of three weeks before our et can travel abroad.

3) ANIMAL HEALTH CERTIFICATE

Once you have your travel plans in place we can then organise an appointment within ten days of your departure date to complete the AHC. To complete the form we need to have all animals present with the owner who will be travelling with these animals. The form takes approximately an hour to complete and issue.

The AHC allows for up to four months travel in Europe. It does require a health check and worming for dogs one to five days before returning to the UK.

Please be aware of exotic disease issues, in certain countries within Europe, that the UK currently does not experience, please ask about how best to protect your pet whilst on holiday.
